What happens when you get your teeth whitened and how long do the results last?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Everyone would like to have pearly-white teeth that dazzle every time they smile. Unfortunately, life can get in the way, and your teeth can lose their natural brightness and vibrancy over time.

Fortunately, teeth whitening can reverse the effects of aging, diet, smoking, and gum disease, helping to restore your smile to its natural color (and sometimes better!).

Many patients wonder what happens when they get their teeth whitened. How does the procedure actually work? And how long do results last?

What Happens When You Get Your Teeth Whitened In Peoria, AZ?

When you go to the dentist, they will examine your teeth and recommend a course of treatment they feel will benefit you the most.

Some people require nothing more than a visit to the hygienist to remove superficial stains and restore the natural whiteness of their teeth. Others with mild discoloration can use at-home kits, provided by their dental practitioner.

However, people with more severe yellowing or browning may require in-practice whitening, the most potent whitening treatment available in Peoria, Arizona.

In-practice teeth whitening in Peoria, AZ, starts by applying a protective gel to your gums and putting a rubber shield in your mouth to prevent damage to the surrounding tissue.

The dentist will then apply bleach to your teeth, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. These chemicals then get to work on any stains, turning teeth from yellow to white.

After a short time, the dentist removes the bleach, the gel, and the mouth guard, thereby completing the treatment.

Most patients only require one session to improve the whiteness of their teeth dramatically. After a few minutes, teeth are several shades lighter. The difference is immediate and noticeable.

How Long Does Teeth Whitening In Peoria, AZ, Last?

Teeth whitening is not a permanent treatment. However, the effects can last for a long time if you take care of your smile. Avoiding the sources of stains allows patients in Peoria, Arizona, to maintain the whitening results for longer. Stopping smoking and avoiding red wine, coffee, and tea can sometimes allow whitening to last for up to three years. However, results may only last a few months if you continue to light up or make no adjustments to your diet.

If you notice your teeth are starting to look yellow again, you can return to the dentist for a top-up. They will repeat the procedure discussed above, helping to bleach any new stains you might have accumulated.

Please note that teeth whitening doesn’t work like dentures, crowns fillings. It won’t provide you with a permanently white surface.

Are you interested in teeth whitening in Peoria, Arizona? If so, then speak to your dentist today about the various options available to you. They can provide you with valuable information on what to expect during treatment and whether it is the right option. Remember, teeth whitening cannot correct some forms of tooth discoloration, such as that caused by antibiotic use earlier in life. In that case, you may wish to explore other options such as veneers.

Why Invisalign is better than traditional braces

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

For years dentists have been offering orthodontic solutions to patients that straighten their teeth and improve their smile. Traditionally, they used metal braces that used a wire under tension to align teeth slowly.

However, this treatment came with several downsides, including the way it looked and the fact that it could catch on the tongue and cheeks. In response, a brand called Invisalign developed a type of tooth straightening system that eliminated many of these issues and improved on the traditional brace. Now it is one of the most popular orthodontic treatments available.

Here are some of the advantages of Invisalign in Peoria, AZ.

It Is Discreet

While traditional metal wire and post braces were effective for realigning teeth, they weren’t discreet. Whenever patients in Peoria, Arizona, smiled, it was immediately evident that they were wearing a brace.

For many people, this obviousness causes uncomfortable feelings of self-consciousness and anxiety.

Invisalign in Peoria, AZ, however, gets around this problem. Instead of using metal wires and posts, the system relies on a series of transparent retainers that clip onto teeth in sequence. They are discreet while you wear them, and you can remove them at any time, allowing you to pick and choose.

You Can Eat What You Like

When you wear traditional braces, you need to be careful about the foods you eat. Certain crunchy or exceptionally chewy foods can damage the braces and force you to seek repairs.

Invisalign, however, doesn’t rely on easily-damaged components. Instead, it uses a composite structure that surrounds the teeth, preventing any errant food debris from getting stuck and causing damage.

Traditional braces can also break even if you follow all of your orthodontist’s advice. Because they rely on adhering multiple posts to your teeth, they have many more points of failure. Regular chewing forces can damage them quite easily.

Invisalign retainers, however, are just single pieces of material and much less prone to damage. Furthermore, it is easy to replace them. You just pop in a new retainer, and off you go.

It Is More Comfortable

Invisalign Peoria, AZ, is popular for another reason: it is more comfortable.

Traditional braces rely on moving the position of teeth in the mouth by forcing them in a specific direction, dictated by the pressure applied by the metal wire. It is a brute technique.

Invisalign, however, is different. Laboratories make each retainer specifically for your orthodontic needs, applying pressure only where you require it. In other words, you’re not changing the location of teeth that are already in the correct position – only those that you need to move.

Furthermore, Invisalign retainers are smooth all over, meaning that they are much less likely to catch on your cheeks and tongue. There’s less rubbing.

Most people living in Peoria, Arizona, find that Invisalign is a superior treatment to wire braces. However, you will need to discuss your options with your dentist. Invisalign may not be suitable for patients with compliance issues or who have particularly crooked teeth at the outset.

Teeth Whitening In Peoria, Arizona

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

At Arrowhead Family Dental, we offer a wide range of cosmetic treatments, and teeth whitening is one of the most popular. From stains to yellowing to the dullness that naturally comes with time, tooth discoloration is one of the most frequent cosmetic concerns, and can deeply impact a person’s confidence in their smile.

With our teeth whitening in Peoria, AZ, we can help you smile freely once again without fear. Our treatment utilizes both in-chair treatments at our office in Peoria, Arizona, as well as custom made kits you can use at home.

Do you need teeth whitening?

Tooth discoloration is a very common problem, in part because so many of us enjoy coffee, a glass of wine, and other foods that lead to it. Smoking, antibiotic medications, and other factors can also lead to stains and discoloration, which can get worse over time. Even age dulls our smile if we allow it. If you experience any of these, teeth whitening treatments might be perfect for you.

Teeth whitening in Peoria, AZ

A professional teeth whitening treatment from a trained dentist is both the most effective and safest way to treat discoloration of all kinds and to help you feel confident in your smile. With no risk of damage to your gums or teeth, it’s totally safe.

Unlike store-bought products, we create our teeth whitening trays custom to meet your specific needs. With them, we can teach you how to use industry-standard whitening products in the comfort of your home, which tends to be 3 to 5 times stronger than retail products.

The teeth whitening process

All of our treatments start with a consultation, taking a closer look at your teeth, making sure your gums are in good enough health to go on with the treatment, and finding out the level of whiteness you want to reach. We will show you how many shades your smile can improve by and create the whitening mix to be used in the office and at home. In most cases, we prefer a combination of in-office treatments and at-home whitening for 2-4 weeks.

Each in-office appointment takes roughly an hour, and less time if we use higher concentration bleaches cured with blue light. Then, you will be given instructions on how to use the at-home kit to maintain the results of the treatment.

Get in touch for teeth whitening in Peoria, Arizona

The team at Arrowhead Family Dental will be glad to answer any questions you might have about teeth whitening in Peoria, Arizona, and to arrange an appointment if you’re happy to go ahead. We will carry out a detailed consultation before the treatment starts so you can be informed, confident, and comfortable with the path ahead, as well as getting a better idea of what results you can expect. If you have any crowns or veneers, these may need to be replaced, since they are not affected by whitening treatments.
